This Morning's Message

Today is Mother's day. A great day to begin a new adventure. During morning worship earlier today (during the pastorial prayer of all things) I was given an idea. I have to believe that it was an idea that God wanted me to have and act upon.

You see, last year at this time I was a very active participant at St. James. I was on a few committees, I was in Bible Study, I was attending special retreats, and I was in hot persuit of my certificate of Lay Speaking with just one more weekend of training before getting my certificate. It is something I have wanted for many, many years and it finally looked like I would reach that goal. Once certified I would be qualified to speak in any United Methodist Church as a Lay Speaker.

Then, I became ill. Not off the wall sick or anything, just very very tired and weak. I won't bore you with the long background story...I will just tell you the result. I have Lupus. Not a terribly horrible disease most of the time, but one that can have a profound effect on the way you live your life.

To make a long story short, I had to give up everything. Committees, Bible study, retreats and most of all my pursuit of the Lay Speakers Certificate all had to be put on hold. That was last October. In late January I was put on new drugs, given a new regiment and started feeling much much better. While I never missed a single day of work, life was pretty mundane other than that. Now I am back to a point where I want to become more active... and I prayed "How do I begin?"

First of all, I got all of the information from the district and will attend the Lay Speaking Class in November (first one available). But for now, I am not ready to become "gung ho" just yet, but I am trying to increase my activities. I ask God for guidance and this morning He gave it to me.

I am on this computer everyday... be it ten minutes or two or three hours it seems I live at this computer. "USE IT FOR MY GOOD" is what I heard in my head. I can do this! I can make a blog to let people know about God, our Church and its family. What a great idea!! I'm glad He gave it to me!!

So from now on, I will try to keep you posted on just a small part of the life of the church. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

"May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 115:14-15
